Let's start with some classroom decorations. One of my favorite classroom spaces for decorations is the ceiling. You can hang seasonal items, or thematic ones. For example, the transportation mobile pieces can hang during transportation, snowflakes in the Winter, raindrops in the Spring time, etc. So for Chanukah, we hang dreidels and Latkes.... :)
Fun dreidels include the stained glass variety, see the photo below, or you can simply cut out paper dreidels and have the kids color them, or you can go a bit fancier and make them 3-D! Here's how:
Cut 2 full size dreidels from construction. paper- (make sure that they are identical), and have the kids color or dot them. You don't want paint or collage materials, because they'll get in the way of the construction process.
Cut a a slit about halfway up one dreidel, and halfway down the other. Fit the dreidels together using the slits to bind them. Punch a hole at the top of one section, add string, and let it swing!
Now for the Latkes. You 'll need a bunch of brown plus one or two other colors of construction paper for this one. Use one sheet of paper to cut out a latke shape. Next, cut 4 one and a half inch strips from the next paper. Then, fan-pleat the four strips so that they have an accordion fold. Next, using the colored paper, or more brown if you'd like, cut hands and feet that will be glued to the 4 accordion strips. Finally, you can attach the hands and feet, and maybe give your latke a cute face. And let it bounce!!
